Parents taking interest… simple training tips?

Okay, here’s the deal. I went through three levels of obedience with my dog. She’s smart and listens well to me, but won’t listen to my parents.

They stay up later than i do so they agreed to keep an eye on her. She’s apparently a demon in disguise: as soon as i leave she’s literally on them.

She yodels, she shrieks, she growls, she pounces on them, the nips at them, she runs around like mad… she basically won’t leave them alone and they’re sick of it. They don’t want to crate her, they just want to be able to get her to stop nipping and pouncing (they don’t mind playing ball or tug, they just don’t like the noise and physical stuff.)

She gets daily walks and play sessions with me. I plan on increasing the walks when it gets warmer, but until then i need some ideas: what training tips could i give them that aren’t too involved? They tried the "get up and leave" thing, they tried to squirt her with water. Neither worked (she likes the water and would follow them to the gate, nipping at their heels and continuing to bark.)

Their goal: to be able to enjoy TV before bed without being pounced on or nipped AND without the noise. Like i said, they don’t mind playing with her and do that - she just gets out of control with them.

Note: She does not do this with me OR when i am around. Not to the extent she does with them, and she’ll usually stop when i tell her to. So they really need to be the ones to correct this as i do not see it often enough to do so myself.

  • German Shepherd says:

    ok this is obviously dominance.

she does not respect your parents as she does you so they need to gain her respect and show her who is boss, because that sort of behavior is certainly not acceptable, because what if children are to gert involved and she treats them the same way, this behavior needs to stop before it escalates even further.

when she does this to your parents they should give her a slight jab in the side ( just a little harder than a touch) and this will tell her that this behavior is not acceptable, in the animal world when something is done that someone else doesn’t like they give them a nudge in the side to say that this is not acceptable.

They should also put her in front of them and get her to sit and then walk straight into her and this will force her to move back word and this will then reinforce that your parents are in charge. do not let her go to the side and if she does then do the same again until she reverses when she takes a few paces back then invite her back into the space that they took from her to say don’t be scared but that’s space and im in charge.

    i hope this helps :)
