husband thinks our dog is bad, but I think he’s good… what are your thoughts??
Good:
1. listens VERY well… If I whistle to him he always comes to me. When outside without a leash and other dogs walk by, I tell him stay, and he doesn’t move, even with NO training or obedience school.
2. He has never bitten my kids even when they are being cruel to him.
3. Sleeps through the night quietly, and does not whine or howl.
4. Goes directly into his crate when we tap on the door and click our tongue.
Bad:
1. occasionally chews up my kids’ toys (maybe 1-2 toys a month)
2. Out of the blue will poop on our carpet for no apparent reason (this has only happened 2-3 times total)
3. Sometimes won’t go potty when anyone but me walks him
4. tears up the carpet if he is enclosed anywhere with carpet
5. has a weak stomach and will have diarrhea in hidden areas (like under bed) if he gets too much of the kids’ food (I don’t think this is his fault by they way).
I think he is a very good dog, but have trouble convincing my husband so.
The dog is 2 years old
He has his own toys
He is DEFINITELY a mommy’s dog… most of his bad behavior only occurs if I am not there.
When he chews the kids’ toys… I don’t know about it until I eventually come across the chewed toy… so I haven’t pinpointed any pattern. I believe it’s just confusion on his part because the kids will tease him with their toys… so he doesn’t know they aren’t his.
We have curbed most of the bad habits… I just wanted other opinions on how good/bad his behavior is to know if I was biased by a lot of bad dogs previously… or if he was biased by a lot of really really good dogs previously.
THANKS! ;;)

The reason for the diarrhea would be the kids food, certain foods just dont agree with a dogs stomache i’m affraid. Is he left alone when he chews the toys? If he is its most likely because he is frustraited, dogs tend to see us as their family and think they are the "parents" so to speak… and when you leave they get upset and worried that you might not come back so they get quite frustraited (Also applies to carpet chewing!) Also about the "potty" only when you take him for a walk, im not sure why this is but it might be that he feels most at comfort when he is with you. Hope this all helps.
