How do you start a career in dog breeding?

I am looking for something to do for a living, and one of the things I thought I would love is dog breeding. my dog helped me to realize my love for dogs. I often take care of other’s dogs while they are away and I am never bored around these animals. I considered training but I really am interested in breeding. I know the responsibilities are major and I just want to know what I should do to start out this possible career. I am still in high school and plan to graduate but I want to start planning my career asap.

I am interested in out of my home breeding mainly, and I would like to breed Golden Retrievers or yorkies as a family pet, not for shows or such.

Please- I will take custructive critisim but I ask you to keep it kind. This is something I really want to do I want to know how to start out, and what to expect.

If anyone who has expirence would mind answering this question that’d be wonderful.

  • show breeders sell sick pups. says:

i started out with breeding purebred poms..but decided to get out of purebreds after reading mixed is healthier and smarter than purebreds..you really don’t make alot of money in it with prenatal care for your females xrays..puppy shots vet checks wormings..that all comes out of your pocket..i have a savings account setup..the money i make off my pups goes back in my dogs..i have money put back for emergencies..so think about the cost before breeding..
