Hello. I have a white pomeranian that is 1 year and 4 months old. We have been training him with a professional and he knows sit, lie down, stay, not to ask for food at the table ( sometimes he forgets so), not to run out the door when opened, and to stay at your side when your walking him ( trust me he was at the end of the leash all the time). I was wondering if anyone knows a special site which contains stuff such as house training, obedience, and crate training ( I take him out at night so he does his business and his crate is pee/poo free) . Tomorrow I am going to Petsmart to buy a clicker, small treats that I saw ( goes along with clicker so its like click, good boy, and treat), and a house training magazine which has a Yorkie on the front cover which has tips on training your dog step-by-step in a page. So if anyone would please give me a site i would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Dog training??

I’m 28wks pregnant and am starting to think about the big changes that are going to take place when the baby arrives. One of the changes that is a MUST is obedience from my 6yr king charles!! She has been "the baby" of the house for so long now and honestly she rules the roost >> that is until April… My question is do you think its too late to start getting her into the habit of not being aloud in many of the rooms in the house ie; no upstairs, no living room etc… also how and when should i start this training and any good tips on how to make it work?? Pls note she is VERY spoiled!
i should also mention she cries really loud if she is kept away from me. If im upstairs she will cry loudly at the bottom of the stairs until i call her up!!
LOL nooooooo i dont want to abandon her jeese!!! I mean the dog hairs cant be good for a newborn baby?? Its not that she would ever harm the baby cos thats just not her nature but im going to need to get some discipline!! DOG HAIRS are not good! Jeese i would never give her away and she’ll still get the love she always has got its just that i need some boundaries after all my baby needs me too!!

Potty training for German Shepherd dog, 4 months old ! HELP !?

I need tips or hints how to train the dog on doing it in some precise place, never in front of guests or smthng. And more obedience lessons.

HELP PLZ HELP training tips PLEASE?

We adopted a two year old dog. Hes easily distracted so that makes it more difficult to train him. I do have patience for him. He can sit and stay & hes potty trained to use the news papers. I want to teach him how to give a paw, roll over & when hes doing something wrong I just have to say "stop" and then he would stop. Hes hard-headed cause when I call his name, he runs away. So I want to teach him how to listen to me when I call his name. Hes very, very playful. So please give me tips, I want to hear this from you.

Don’t recomend me any books, or websites I have to register in, and (I’ve been hearing this alot) obedience school. There is no obedience school near by. I’ve tried to convince my mother and she said "absolutely not" cause she dosn’t want to pay for it. She also thinks that our dog will learn when I train him.

Parents taking interest… simple training tips?

Okay, here’s the deal. I went through three levels of obedience with my dog. She’s smart and listens well to me, but won’t listen to my parents.

They stay up later than i do so they agreed to keep an eye on her. She’s apparently a demon in disguise: as soon as i leave she’s literally on them.

She yodels, she shrieks, she growls, she pounces on them, the nips at them, she runs around like mad… she basically won’t leave them alone and they’re sick of it. They don’t want to crate her, they just want to be able to get her to stop nipping and pouncing (they don’t mind playing ball or tug, they just don’t like the noise and physical stuff.)

She gets daily walks and play sessions with me. I plan on increasing the walks when it gets warmer, but until then i need some ideas: what training tips could i give them that aren’t too involved? They tried the "get up and leave" thing, they tried to squirt her with water. Neither worked (she likes the water and would follow them to the gate, nipping at their heels and continuing to bark.)

Their goal: to be able to enjoy TV before bed without being pounced on or nipped AND without the noise. Like i said, they don’t mind playing with her and do that - she just gets out of control with them.

Note: She does not do this with me OR when i am around. Not to the extent she does with them, and she’ll usually stop when i tell her to. So they really need to be the ones to correct this as i do not see it often enough to do so myself.

Questions about training?

My Main question is, Is there a way to train a dog to walk/play in the yard without any sort of fence? like could i eventually take my dog out and play with him without the fear of him running away?

Any other training tips are welcome as well…bathroom training, obedience, tricks, whatever you know can be helpful

Thanks for your help!
A lot of Help! Thanks so much everyone!

Does anyone have tips on leash-training an adult pit bull that is currently unsocialized and kept outdoors?

I am aware of the other obedience training that will have to take place before leash-training this dog, such as teaching him to sit, stay, etc…and have mild experience in doing so with different breeds of dogs. However, I feel I have a unique situation because this dog is not kept in a home, was most likely left abandoned as a failed pit fighter, and it is hard to determine his temperament. The largest problem that I am facing is that if I let him out of his pen at the current moment he will be free and ready to kill numbers of chickens, cats, geese, etc roaming around the yard. There are larger fenced pastures that I could take him to to work in, but I am a 5′3" 105-pound 21 year old girl with unnoticable muscle mass and am worried to just get the dog out on a leash in the case that he might escape from my grasps immediately.
How should I go about this?
The dog is my dad’s and not my own…he has had pit bulls like this throughout his whole life including his family….OF COURSE it is not an appropriate way to treat this breed of dog or any–and I don’t feel he mistreats them but they are missing out on love and stimulation…the most rational answer to this would be to convince him to do things differently but I am not going to do that…would just like to get acquainted with this dog because I’m very interested in owning a pit bull of my own and treating it right!
Ah, and also the entire property is fenced in and dad keeps a very good eye on him when he’s out….the both of us are aware of the danger of a pit roaming too far and tearing something/someone up..
How he acts around me:
I just met him 3 days ago…I approached him in a calm, slow, friendly manner(like you would with almost any animal) to see how he would act around me and he slowly put his tail between his legs and still looked up at me with quiet questioning eyes..definately a little shy and scared..I went and got him some new bedding for his dog-box and both me and my brother went in the cage and he perked up immediately. He pranced around us to watch what was going on and he hopped up to prop himself up on my chest a couple of times. I’m normally not very receptive to dogs hopping on me but I let him do it so that he felt comfortable and I fondly pet his head while he was on me : )
He growled a little the next day when I was making a little noise outside of his pen to try and get him to come out but I feel that’s pretty natural for a dog when something bothers them and they can’t see it. He seems like a good dog to start with!
thank you smiling_impala for the great link to the forum

What to do about a bad behaved Great Dane?

My boyfriend and I have a 8 month old Great Dane. She is a very whiny, bad behaved dog, that after months of training, still bites people, still pees and poos in the house, runs around like a crazy dog, runs straight in to people and objects, and is just all together not a well trained dog. She has her moments, rarely, where she will behave for very short periods of time.

I am almost 12 weeks pregnant, and I can’t have my dog acting this way. And once my baby is here, more importantly, she will not be able to act this way. Right now there is NO way I can afford training classes. My vet recommended obedience training, but that is way to expensive for us right now. I really don’t want to have to sell my dog, but she can not keep acting this way.

Can you tell me any training tips?
What could I do to help?

Also, is there some type of medicine or anything I could give her to calm her down? She is WAY to hyper. I know she is a puppy, but she is a huge puppy that stays in the house, and jumps on people, and breaks things, and I need something to calm her down. She gets plenty of exercise, so that’s not the problem.

Thanks for your help!
