How can I train my dog to stop frantically barking everytime he sees another dog?

My dog was not trained nor sent to obedience school when he was a puppy (he’s 3 years old now), and when we adopted him, he was pretty easy to train except for one area: he continues to bark like mad everytime he sees another dog. When we are walking, he cannot control himself but he will tug and TUG while whining and barking at that other dog (while the other dog ignores him!).

This is also a problem at home, because he frequently barks at other people or dogs from our living room window. How can I train him to not bark so often, outside AND inside?

Thank you very much for your time and assistance ^ o ^ ~

Is my dog to old to be trained?

My dog is a shih-tzu mixed with a poodle and she is was born in August 2006 and has never really been trained but next week she will start obedience school but I keep hearing that she might be to old to be trained. Is that true?

How much does it cost to hire a professional dog trainer?

How much do people spend to train their dogs from their own home? If they live 5+ hours away from the nearest obedience class/school?

PLEASE don’t bash me and flame me, I’m just curious as to how much it costs.

How do I get my dog to stop jumping on people?

I have a 15 mo old dog who is very active (and hyper) and jumps on everyone. He was in obedience school for about six months and I trained him not to jump, so now he doesn’t jump on me but he jumps on everyone else. Any suggestions? He’s about 65 lbs and I don’t want him to hurt anyone.

How do I convince my parents to let me get another dog?

We currently have two dogs. Both we rescued, one is 10 and the other is 4. Both are very low energy dogs xD they love sleeping and eating. Both dogs are very loyal to my mom and follow her everywhere.
I really want a dog that would be more of my own dog. I have been around dogs for almost my entire life (I am 15). We foster dogs for a local shelter very often. I train our foster dogs whatever they need to know, house training, crate training, obedience training, etc. I love training dogs. Border collies have long been my favorite breed because of their intelligence and athleticism. I want a border collie so i can take him/her running with me every morning and teach him/her freestyle frisbee (frisbee with a lot of fancy tricks).
My mom loves dogs. She loves all our foster dogs but especially the puppies. It would be easier to convince my mom to get a puppy than a dog.
My dad on the other-hand, doesn’t love dogs as much as me and my mom. He loves dogs when he gets to know them, and doesn’t really mind when we foster, but i wouldn’t call him a dog lover. He hated having our puppy, because he chewed up some of his things so he would be more agreeable to an adult dog.
(If i can convince my mom, my dad’s opinion doesn’t matter that much)
I found the perfect dog at a border collie rescue in our state. He is 8 months old, still somewhat a puppy but he is house-trained and his bio says he has learned only to chew toys from his dog basket. He loves other dogs, loves to ride in the car, and is crate-trained. He loves to play fetch which makes me think i could easily train him as a frisbee dog.
I showed his picture to my mom, and told her pretty much the same info i just told you.
I have ,000 and I am willing to spend it all for this dog. His adoption fee is 200 so i can easily afford him myself and I offered to pay for his food, vet, grooming, everything.
If i could figure out a solution to one problem, I think i could convince them. My mom says I won’t have time to take care of the dog during the school year. I told her i would get up early every morning and go run with the dog so he would be tired. During the fall sports season, I do not get home until 5:45/6:00, and the winter and spring, 3:45/4:00. There is the problem…
Well I am running out of things to say so i guess I will leave it at that. Any advice or clever ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to do almost anything for a border collie.

Why is my puppy being aggressive?

I have a 15½ week old female Lhasa Apso. She sometimes nips and bites, which I try to distract her from doing by giving her a chew toy or a squirt with a water bottle. While that often works, sometimes she just gets crazy. I attribute that to her being tired, as it is worse at night and when she goes in her crate she sleeps pretty quickly. I am taking her to dog obedience school and that is going well. When she gets in a spat of aggressiveness, she will not let me touch her, she will "back off" (not run away) and then snap at me and if I turn my back on her she goes for the pants and growls loudly. I walk her 3 times a day and play with her and practise training… she is 90% potty trained (thanks to crate-training from the time I brought her home at 8 weeks). Am I overstimulating her? Or might there be a medical explanation for her aggressiveness? We go to the vet next week so I will be sure to ask. I also want to point out that she is not aggressive or possessive of food and or toys.

Black lab will be 2 years old on Sept. 1st…too late for obedience school?

Two weeks after we brought our black lab puppy home I found out I was pregnant. So, I started training him, but because the smell of the dog made me want to vomit after a while, he only received so much training. He knows to sit, heel and lay down. He knows come forward and go to his crate. He can even retrieve our newspaper. He knows not to jump when I tell him.

But, he’s hyper beyond belief and contantly underfood. When he’s outside he’s tripped myself, husband and my 78 year old father-in-law.

My mother-in-law suggested obedience school, but normally dogs go when they are puppies. I’ve also heard that it takes labs a few years to calm down, mostly 4 years. So, I don’t know.

My son is 10 months and access is very limited with the dog because of the dog’s hyper-ness.

What do you think? And, sure, my hubby should’ve taken the dog to obedience school since I could no longer train him, but we didn’t.

Thanks.
Thanks for your responses so far. :) Much appreciated. So, glad it’s not too late.

Dog - recap.?

Ok so I asked about the question if my dog should be inside or outside and I got good answers. Thank you. But now I have a problem…

I asked my Dad if he would send my dog to obedience school. And he said "My kids, I’ll teach. My dog, I won’t."

Also.. even though I love my dog. I am sure he would be much happier with a loving family (instead of mine). Don’t get me wrong. I sneak my dog inside the house and outside to play with him. Sometimes I get caught. Anyways. I asked my dad "Well, can we give him away to a family that loves him and teaches him good mannars?" my dad replied….

"No, Me and My dog wanna be here." I know this is VERY untrue. My dog doesn’t wanna be locked up in the basement all day until he can go outside.

I wanna train my dog, thing is that I can’t train him inside…

Please help…

How to train a dog to not pull on the leash?

I’ve been volunteering at the local Animal Shelter for a few days now… And I’ve been wondering how to get the dogs to not pull on the leash. It’s not that I really mind, they’re not super-powerful dogs and they don’t pull me over or anything… But I believe that if they walked well on the leash, their adoption chances would raise significantly.
All the places I’ve checked say "talk to the dog calmly and make sure the dog is calm when you start the walk/put the leash on," which isn’t really feasible. You have to nearly shout to be heard over a dozen dogs barking, and it would be near impossible for any dog to be calm in those conditions.
And it’s also not like I can work with them 24/7 either. The shelter is only open from eleven to four; and in the mornings I have to clean. Also, the budget isn’t really high, so an obedience school is way out of the question. I’m not quite sure a choke collar or whatever is the best way to go, either. It just seems cruel. So, any suggestions?

my dog just graduated from obedience few weeks back, however he again starts behaving untrained. why?

my mix breed dog of 1 year old just finish graduating from obedience school. However few weeks later he starts acting as if he never went to obedience school and forget all his training. why?
i did not attend any obedience classes with my dog because i was too busy with other things. However, I was never told what to enforce or what to do. I presumed that when he’s done with the training classes, he will behave well always.

  • Do you think this'll be enough to qualify for the UKC Premier?
Okay, so I’m showing 3 of my dogs (in 3 different height divisions) in AG1 A. There’s gonna be 4 trials altogether, so that means 12 runs. I’m pretty sure my Papillon’ll do good (her first ever UKC trial she got 4 perfect scores and 1st places and she’d never seen real equipment before, but [...]
