I’d always wanted to be a vet, until one day I realized that there was no way I could handle the blood and gore and putting animals to sleep. Now, I think the job I’d love to have would be working with therapy dogs. What kind of schooling would this require? Also, where can I find more information? Ideally, I’d like to train and bring dogs to hospitals and nursing homes, but I’m open to other animals and ideas.

Thanks!

How do you start a career in dog breeding?

I am looking for something to do for a living, and one of the things I thought I would love is dog breeding. my dog helped me to realize my love for dogs. I often take care of other’s dogs while they are away and I am never bored around these animals. I considered training but I really am interested in breeding. I know the responsibilities are major and I just want to know what I should do to start out this possible career. I am still in high school and plan to graduate but I want to start planning my career asap.

I am interested in out of my home breeding mainly, and I would like to breed Golden Retrievers or yorkies as a family pet, not for shows or such.

Please- I will take custructive critisim but I ask you to keep it kind. This is something I really want to do I want to know how to start out, and what to expect.

If anyone who has expirence would mind answering this question that’d be wonderful.

Humane society?

Humane society?

I am going to put an application in to a humane society but I need to know about how long it will be before I know if I can volunteer. Also, I want to know what types of things I will be doing in more detail (link below, either kennel assistant or canine specialist). I really want to work with the animals because I would like to go into a career with dogs (possibly training and opening a shelter). If I have the choice between the two, which would be best (I really don’t want to teach any classes but will if absolutely have to)?

P.S.:
I am only 16, in high school out of the town where it is so I can only work on weekends

need help picking between the two jobs?

ok im stuck on two job careers. bartender or dog trainer.
the pro’s and con’s are that the bartending career the class is 4 hours away from me, i live in upstate new york the class is in long island. its only two weeks and im a very social person. on the other hand. ITS 4 HOURS AWAY. so is it worth it?
the dog training is online and the hands on training part is like an hour or so away from my house. the bad part is that its online and i dont think you learn much by online reading dont you? i REALLY like both jobs and i wanna learn to do both…i just need others opinions thats which is better for me…business wise, money wise and can you actually make a living doing these? i wanna work on my own business as a dog trainer and the bartender i wanna work at a really big bar/pool place near my place. BUT I CANT CHOOSE!!! i need your help….in other words WHICH IS MORE SUCCESSFUL???
THANK YOU!!!

What are some career choices in animal training and behavior?

I’m in college now for elementary education, but i’m starting to think it might not be for me. For almost 15 years i wanted to be a vet, but thats not something i’m quite interested in anymore. Something i have enjoyed is obedience and behavior training in my pets. I’ve fostered several dogs too, so i’ve had lots of practice with it. I’m just curious if there are some worth while careers in this area….or similar things. Let me know! :D

some things i’ve thought about are leader dogs for the blind, service animals etc…..i’m just not sure what schooling i would need or anytng.

Dog Grooming?

I am interested in working with animals as a career. I really seem to like the Dog Grooming industry. I’ve heard its extremely physically demanding (and I should know I groom my own dogs which includes 3 115lbs bouviers and an aussie). I also have heard it can be extremely hardwork but i think I’m up to the challenge. Do you have any advice for me as a high school student on where i can get a job, reccomended schools to attend or any other information you could provide. Also if you can inform me about what i should do if i pursue this career and possibly start a grooming business with other services such as dog walking and pet supply?(Im willing to get certified as a dog walker as well) There is a shelter close by that I can volunteer at that also offers training courses for dog walking and registering CGC & therapy dogs if that matters. I appreciate any answers or suggestions for occupations within this field too. Thanks so much for any answers.

Advantages and Disadvantages of having the smallest litter dog.?

I don’t understand this, but I have been hearing it alot from people that the puppy that comes out the last has some advantages and disadvantages in their doggy career. What are these advantages and disadvantages of the rest of the litter mates. They are stronger? They get the biggest? They are more dominant than the rest? Smarter?

My neighbor and I got a puppy from another neighbor of ours who breeds them, it is a german shepherd mixed with rottweiler and beagle. He got the smallest litter(came out last) and I have the one that came out second or third last or something like that. His puppy is really small right now and he always was the smallest compared to the rest of his littermates.

He is always arguing with me telling me that his dog will be the biggest when he grows up and he will be more tougher and stronger and all this rubbish. I just ignore it, since I am not training my dog to be a WWE champion or something. He always likes to compare his dog with my dog because my puppy can do tricks and is very trained, while his is not. Here is a link of my puppy when he was 11 weeks old.
He is 16 weeks now tho and knows much more.

Let me know what the adv and disadv. are for having the smallest littermate or does it really matter all at the end?

Thanks, (this is so I can tell him and show him the answers for proof, best answer = voted for best answer, I vote all my questions that are answered to my Q)

How do I go about training dogs for the Military?

I am a 14 year old freshman in High School.

I have had a life long dream of serving my country but I don’t want to go out on the front lines.

But I have also had my life long dream of becoming a veterinarian.

I am very good with animals. I have had experience with animals and german shepherds all my life.

I have taken a few dog obedience classes but I have a very good understanding with animals. My mom Manages a Veterinary clinic so I have watched animals give birth and take their last breath.
So I have a very good understanding with animals.
Do I need to start taking more advanced dog classes now.
I don’t want to per sue a long term career in the military.
Can I get financial help from the military to help me get through veterinary school.
Who can do I talk to about per sueing this.

school for dog grooming in Tucson AZ?

I am looking for a place to train in tucson, az to become a dog groomer. I do not want to do online classes because i feel like this career would be better to train for in a hands on situation

? for real dog breeders, show, hunt or agility dogs, not pets….?

This ? is in reference to a VERY GOOD ? posted yesterday

Anyway, I wanted to further this thought with this….

As breeders, do you routinely keep some sort of control over the puppies you sell? (show dogs) Do you track and stay involved in the show careers, breedings and offspring? (hunting & agility dogs) Do you require certain training methods or involvement in the training process?

I am asking this of professional breeders because I was absolutely astonished at the level of "control" retained by the breeder over a dog once it is sold. (after reviewing the answers in yesterdays ?) I was involved in show horses and NEVER had anyone tell me i had to do certain things once I handed them thousands of dollars and put the animal in my name, it was my business? Is this really common in the dog industry???
Thanks for your answer guys. I am always getting greyhounds after their racing careers are over, so I understand the level of involvement regarding adoption, I just never knew it was so intense in the show dog world. Knowledge is power and I learned something today…Thanks!
